I am the owner of a townhouse located in Sonoma County,CA in a group of townhomes built with exteriow cedar siding. These townhomes are part of a community of single residences and townhomes. Our CCR's require that all homes be "painted" every 7 years. The majority of the townhouses were professionally restained in 1990. One can barely distinguish those homes which were restained from those which were not. The majority of the homeowners would prefer to leave the townhomes to weather naturally in light of this prior experience.
Can anyone help me with information as to whether it is better to leave the shingles without restaining them or, if they should be restained, how often and with what product.
