Programmable Thermostats & Dual Fuel heat

Posted by Joe Baker on February 28th, 2001 06:07 PM

I can't get over how cool it is to be able to bring up questions to this forum. One thing that I've been thinking about for a long time is replacing my AC/DualFuel Heat T-stats (2 zones) with programmable; but dual fuel thermostats are EXPEN$IVE!! What I'd like to do is get a regular programmable thermostat, and put a SPDT switch in that will connect either the gas or the electric heat wire to the 'heat' terminal on the stat. It looks to me like it would work, but I'd love to know if someone else has tried it. And to make it even MORE interesting, does anyone know of a way to use an outdoor thermostat to activate my switch (electric down to 40F, gas below that).

Looking forward to the responses,
Joe B.
