Hi, Phil. Sorry I forgot to comment on this earlier. BIN primer is a shellac base and, no matter what the manufacturer says, I would not use it for this application. There are primers that are somewhat rust preventive that would be more appropriate. Brush painting any kind of paint on a heating duct grill is always a mess and I would try to stay with a spray product as long as possible to get better coverage and protection without a heavy build-up. Check an auto supply store or the auto department of a mass merchandiser. If you are going to end up with a water based latex paint, it will stick to just about anything, but again, steer clear of Rustoleum. This is not to say that BIN or Rustoleum are bad products. I use them both but I think there are more appropriate products available.
