preparing vinyl for tile

If the vinyl is completely secure to the substrate then there is no reason why you cannot set ceramic tile over it. Sometimes the vinyl acts like an anti fracture membrane.
To start you must clean the area of any soils , chemicals etc. Then you must remove the gloss on the vinyl this is usually done by using acid this should dull the wax and etch the material, after using a mild acid solution it is important to neutralize the acid this is accomplished by using baking soda and water. Then you should lightly sand the vinyl. There may be new wonder products avaliable that will claim that none of these steps are needed but they are difficult to find.
Then use a good quality thinset polymere modified
