In a recent remodel, the entire house was wallpapered. One room had paint over the wallpaper. The painted/wallpapered room took twice as much time to 'peel' and repaint as the entire rest of the house. If the wallpaper really is old stuff, the glue should relax with just little hot water - then use a plastic plaster knife to push the paper off the wall. If you soak the wall too much you might damage the dry wall... Good Luck!
