The 2 year rebuild project is coming down to an end..whew! We've just completed gutting out our 1950's home. We've rewired/replumbed/reframed/drywalled and textured. Oops! we framed the doors in at 80 - 81" not 82". Now we have 11 new pre-hung, 6 panel, hollow core doors sitting in the garage awaiting their final resting place and they don't fit? Width on all the openings are fine, just the height is causing us the grief. What's the procedure to cutting off the excess on the door and can a person cut off as much as 2" from the bottom? Heard a person can drill holes in the bottom of the door and fill with instant insulation before cutting. Was told this would povide a stable bottom to the door without exposing the hollow section to the environment. OK! all you Bob and Norm want to be's let's here your ideas. I live in a small town in Wyoming and the nearest major hardware store is 5 hours away. No! I don't want to return the doors.
