Pouring a concrete shower pan

We have a contractor who is pouring a shower pan for us. He is responsible for a master bath addition and based on his previous actions we have zero confidence in him. We have no idea about pouring cement….specifically a shower pan so we are looking for help.

A concrete slab was poured for the addition and the area where a 5x5 shower was left approximately one foot lower to create a pan. The contractor had said he would mix cement and fill in the pan so that tile could then be laid for the flooring. Today he came and mixed some cement and poured it into the shower area and filled an area approximately 1/3 the size of the shower. It is in a glob and as it is drying it is cracking approximately ½-1 inch wide. Then he left.

So, how is a pan supposed to be poured and does this sound like a disaster or are we still ok? Thank you
