Just about everybody here, I'm sure, has a 7-1/2" portable circular saw of one brand or another. They may have tried one or two different models of the ones that are actually available now but probably have not job tested them extensively. I still have very few rechargeable battery operated tools. (Actually, I had one drill and I just pitched it. My corded drills still have a lot more "guts" than that one and it was never charged when I needed it.)
Where I am going with this is that you need to make a decision whether you need corded or battery powered tools and then need to check the latest reviews that you can find in the magazines. The magazines actually run the tools through comparable testing to what we would put a tool through but do it for everything on the market.
For what it's worth, I have 2 Skilsaws that were about $40. It had a pretty good base and that is an important feature.
