Porch Materials?

Posted by Jeff Rabbitt on June 22nd, 1998 09:58 PM

I am planning to build a traditional covered victorian porch off the front of our Southern California home. I want the flooring to be 4" stained and butt jointed planks, or T&G (no spaces). Most people tell me to nail space deck planking to prevent moisture and rot. However I do not want a deck look, older homes have this smooth no-space floor, what was most likely used? What flooring system (sub-floor/ planking /stain /sealer) and materials would hold up best against the elements in this sort of application?
