Steve's set you straight, but I just wanted to add something. The spray can popcorn paint is EXTREMELY messy. Besides drop cloths covering everything nearby you really should get some plastic and hang it from the cieling to form a tent around the area you'll be spraying. That stuff shoots out of the can something much so that a lot of it deflects off the ceiling and onto everything around. Wear a hat and old clothes. A pair of safety glass are also a good idea.

Like Steve wrote, they really only cover a small area...maybe better to buy a few cans(depending on the size of your repair), keep the receipt and return what you don't use. Use very short bursts and move the can quickly.
