polyurethene over shellac

Posted by Berta on August 31st, 1999 09:55 AM

we are refinishing pine floors, we want to keep them as original as possible, we have sanded and put three coats of orange shellac on the dinning room to match other floors, these floors have been covered with carpet for 30 years , now the big question, can we put polyurethene over the orange shellac? I know some say this should not be done, but remember , these floors have not had anything done to them in over 30 years, they have been covered with carpet. Your help is greatly appreciated. Berta
