I have just finished sanding and staining my hardwood floors. Tonight I will be applying the first of 3 coats of polyurethane. I have 2 questions: Is it necessary to buff after the first application of polyurethane, or can I rough up the surface w/ a high grit sandpaper or steel wool? I have already tried a buffer, but it is very hard to control. Also, how long do I have to wait until I can walk on the surface with shoes and move the furniture in? I have heard that I need to wait one week to put anything down on the floor. Thanks!
