Its a Pole barn! the truss spacing actually sounds fairly close together to me. For those of you who dont live on a farm, lemme esplain this to you. A pole barn is pretty much a building that uses 6X6 or larger "poles" stuck in the ground much like a fence. Attached to that are usually 2x6 boards about 4' apart and Steel panels are attached to them. The roof trusses are roughly 9' apart and strung between them are usually 2x4's 2' apart and steel panels are attached to them. This makes a fairly strong building for a very low cost. Problem is they are cold in the winter, hot in the summer, hard to insulate, and are VERY noisy in a rain storm. As far as the structure this guy plans to build, 6' OC trusses will give pleny of support provided it is assembled properly. As far as squaring it up, the transit is the best way to do it if you have the tailer in the middle, just dont drop anything while building it! :)
