It's the pocket door frame and the roller hardware that's important. Use a high quality frame and hardware and it will last forever. Stanley and Sterling are two manufacturers that come to mind. Don't expect to find them at the local home center though. Look for a "builder's hardware" supplier near you. They should be able to supply the things you're looking for. Also get yourself decent hardware for the door such as Ives flush pulls and edge pull. Avoid the all in one pocket door pull. It looks cheesy and won't last. One exception is the Baldwin pocket door locks which are beautiful but expensive. Look for contractors who do more quality houses ....they'll know this stuff!
