Pneumatic vs Manual Floor Nailer

I am getting ready to lay some prefinished cherry flooring and I am trying to decide what type of nailer to use.

I only have 150 sq ft to lay. I have used both the manual and the pneumatic once each in the past. I have no objections to swinging the hammer but I was told that:

a pneumatic nailer gives a tighter fit
you are less likely to damage the floor with the pneumatic.

The pneumatic nailer will use staples, the manual will use the "L" shaped nails. Any differences in terms of holding power or tendancies to spilt?

I am asking these questions because the rental on the pneumatic is twice that of the manual and the nails are cheaper than staples. Let's face the facts - I'm dealing with a strict budget here.

Thanks for the help. . .
