Plywood thickness for 4' sink

Posted by Sue S. on December 10th, 2002 11:38 PM

Help, please. I got a terrific buy on a Kohler enameled-cast-iron 4' long, 3-bowl sink. It weighs a lot - at least 150 pounds! We're going to make a whole new counter-top.

How thick should the plywood be for this? I think 1/2 inch is NOT enough. What special consideration(s) are involved with this type of length and weight? My housemate fancies himself a 'carpenter', and wants to make the frame to support this sink. It's not installed yet, because I've had nightmares about the whole thing crashing down if not supported properly...
Thanks very much for your help. Sue
