bob, i will try to answer your q/s, i am familiar w/ bead board, & as long as it is not real flimsy you dont need to s/r. the s/r would give it a stronger feel. before you start, measure the walls to be sure that the paneling breaks in the center of a stud, if not you will have to nail a stud along side. you dont have to tape&f, it evens out the edges g/l
