plaster cracks, pine flooring

Posted by Michelle Tate on February 5th, 1999 04:43 PM

1. I am gearing up to do some serious patching on 80
year old plaster walls. A book recommended applying a
bonding compound, namely Plasterbond, before applying
patching plaster. When I asked at the paint store,
they recommended AnchorBond. The label doesn't even
mention plaster. Is this the right stuff? I can't
seem to locate Plasterbond. Would a primer like
Zinsser 1-2-3 primer accomplish the same thing?

2. When sanding and refinishing heart pine floors,
what is the best option for a do-it-yourselfer--a drum
sander, orbital sander...? I have help from an
experienced carpenter who has done this once or twice
before (He's experienced at carpentry, not necessarily
refinishing floors). Some time in the floor's sordid
past, they were sanded to a somewhat desperate
thinness in some areas. I'm hoping to be gentle, yet
thorough when I sand!
