a cricket is basically a "v" hulled boat turned up side down on the top of the roof butted up to the chimney to divert water off and away from the blunt side of the chimney stack.
The "v" shaped in front acts like a water diverter and channels it away from the chimney.
Flashing and roofing are the most important parts of an effective crickett.
Also the width of the crickett must be the same width or alittle more than the width of the stack itself.
