You came to the right place, Stacey.

The first decision you have to make is how messed up the floor is now. If it just has light scratches and is dull and you know what kind of finish is on it now, you could probably just do a repair job.

Sounds to me like you might have to do more, which requires big, heavy sanders and buffers and you might want to consider calling in a pro.

I really need to know more about your present floor and your experience and ability to give you a direction. You might start by reading some of the posts below on floors and see if they make sense to you and if you feel you can handle the equipment. Another good source is to watch programs like Home Again and others on TLC and HGTV to see if you can catch one where they are redoing a floor.

Keep in mind that about any way you do it, your kitchen will be out of commission for a couple of days to more than a week. Sanding a wood floor is an extremely dusty dirty job.
