Plank Flooring

Posted by Frank on March 13th, 2003 06:59 AM

My wife and I were watching HGTV last night, and they showed a home where the owners had replaced the floor with regular 1x8 pine planks. They tore up the old floor, put down 3/4" plywood subfloor, then used glue and concrete nails (to simulate old nails) to secure the planks.

This would be much cheaper than normal flooring, but I had some questions.

1. Shouldn't flooring be dried. ie I see adds for 6% dry planks in floor catalogs. Pine planks from HD are not that dry.

2. Wouldn't this lead to bowing?

3. Since it's not tongue and groove, what would be the recommended spacing between planks?
