Pine Floors

My house is on a heavily wooded lot and the carpet is trashed, although the plywood underneath seems in good shape. I love the pine plank "cabin" look (the more distressed the better, and minor gapping is OK, as long as the floor remains stable) but I'm on an extremely tight budget. Can I use plain old #2 pine boards, butted up against each other, nailed/glued down, and polyurethaned? Where can I get more info?

Many thanks,
