Pilot lite is supposed to be off when heater is off--so i heard from a neighbor??

Thanks again for the information. From what you described above, the only way to turn off the pilot lite is to turn the knob.
But I talked to a couple of other people and my impression was that, on the temperature control pannel, when the switch is at the "heat" postion, the pilot lite is supposed to be on, and when the switch is on the "off" position or the "cool" condition, the pilot lite is supposed to be off. Is that right??
