I'm doing a remodel job that has particle board over 1/2" plywood over the joists. I want to remove the particle board and put 1/2" Durarock or Permabase in its place. My joists are 16" o.c. and I'll be placing ceramic tile over the cement board. Will putting the cement board in place of the particle board work or am I setting myself up for cracked tiles in the future?

Also, I was told to glue it and screw it down when I install the cement board. Does that mean that I need to just get rid of the roofing felt (that was between the particle board and plywood) so that the construction adhesive will bond to the plywood or just screw it down over the felt paper and forget about the glue?
