Pergo Or Hardwood

Hardwood is definitely a better chice for the wood-look. Pergo my have the appearance of wood, but what feels like plastice, what looks like plastic, is plastic.

The problem you have with installing the hardwood: you can't.

What you can do you can do is build a sub-floor.
You need to attach 2x4's flat to the concrete floor, ebery 16 inches and lay tougue and groove plywood on top of that. Then you can have the hardwood floor installed.
