Patching drywall

Hi, Bashobi. With 2 active teenagers, I have patched a hole in the drywall or 2. With a 1 foot square hole, I would cut the drywall back enough to screw the patch into half the width of the face of the joists on 2 sides. Other than that, I don't see a problem. Drywall does not move around much. If it did, you would see cracks in the paint on most houses. So I would not be concerned about that, but I would like to see the patch supported by being screwed into the joists.
