I need to install shelves in my kitchen pantry and I was wondering if ya'll had any suggestions for the shelving material. The pantry is a funny trapezoidal shape. The shelves will measure about 24.5 inches across the back, 43.5 inches across the front, 19.5 inches on the right side and 27 inches on the left side. The right side meets up at right angles with the front and back. I am planning to use 1"x3" lumber nailed or screwed to the studs in the wall to support each shelf along the length of the left side, right side and back. This is the only food storage that I have in the kitchen, so I'd like to be able to put a lot of weight on each shelf. I'm concerned that plywood or MDF won't be stiff enough to support a bunch of canned food without sagging. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!
