painting weathered T-111

Posted by jb on June 1st, 2001 04:30 PM

I have a garage that was built with T-111 siding that has been sitting unpainted for about a year. Now, I'm finally getting around to painting it. My house was painted with primer and BenMoore solid body stain, white, cedar shingles and I love it. I'm hoping that using solid body stain will mean I won't have to repaint it as frequently and/or when it gets old it won't chip and flake. I want to do similar to the t-111 (this is the exterior plywood/siding junk that people like me make garages out of on a shoestring budget). It is slightly weathered. Do I need any special primer? Please give thoughts as to what I need to consider. Also, the pine trim i pre-primed and has been left exposed for a year without real paint on it. It looks ok, not perfect. Thoughts?... Thanks in advance...
