Jeff - if what you have heard is true - no paint would be sold in the Southern parts of this country!

Hundreds of thousands of stucco homes are painted - and continue to be - I would not worry about it - make sure you follow proper painting procedures - use a good paint - you will be fine.

New/repaired stucco can't be painted until it is a pH of less than 13.0. Once it has reached that stage a latex sealer - and then two coats of 100% acrylic latex paint (flat or satin) in your choice of color.
