Very Easy, but time consuming:
1) remove all hardware.
2) use a solution of vinegar, water and bleach to remove any grease, grim, dirt, and other stuff.
3) lightly sand in the direction of the grain to rough up the surface.
4) then lightly steel wool the area.
5) wipe the area clean with a slightly damp cloth. Not too much water as it will raise the grain.
6) Prime the surfaces with a good Zinser BIN primer. remember, light coats applied numerously are much better than heavy coats. Apply three or four.
7) apply a good interior latex finish coat. I prefer latex because oil will yellow in time. Latex will not.
8) install new hardware.
9) Your done.
