My husband and I just bought a 4000 Sq Ft 1970's home covered in dark panneling...UGH!!! Anyway, I just tackled the job with great success. For our walls, I bought kilz original oil based primer (make sure you have good ventilation), I applied 2 coats of this and let it dry overnight, after that I chose a pale yellow eggshell finish paint (Behr paint in the color "cashmere sweater"), I applied two even coats of this and let dry, I finished with a cream colored trim in semi gloss finish ("swiss coffee" is the name of that color, same brand as above), I bought all of my supplies (roller, tray, mineral spirits, and 2 high quality brushes, a 3 inch and a 1.5 inch)at Home DePot. The end result is stunning. My house looks completely different and so much bigger. We love it, and while time consuming (3 12 hour days), it was not at all difficult. Good luck!!!
