In reply to panneling old and looks bad what to do HELP! by Jason on July 12th, 2001 11:58 AM [Go to top of thread]

i did this out of desperation 15 years ago as the former owners had glued the stuff directly to the walls and in trying to remove took chunks of drywall with it. you HAVEto knock the shine off.sand tack wash with good old tsp but remember to now you will have gone around the room 4 or 5 times.the prep is the most important and don't even think of primer(kil'z is my fav) or paint until this is done.two to thre coats of good quality paint and the room will have a whole new personality;dont't be afraid to go with a color!i to thought i wanted those grooves gone but kept them as a time saver as i couldn't face going around that room 3 more gives another texture to the room and i actually am glad i kept them .the first paint job has lasted and i only repainted to add color.
