Painting over Wallpaper

I have a large bathroom that is completly covered in out-dated wallpaper that I really want to get rid of. What is the easiest and best way to paint over wallpaper - if indeed it is in good shape - which mine appears to be? I am wondering if there is a primer or something that I can use to paint over vs taking it all down, sanding, priming then finally painting. My end result that I desire is a sponge look in the room. Thank you so much!
