The mouldings are a very dark brown and they look dry. They are around every doorway in the house. Going down our short, narrow hall, there are 7 doorways. All you see are the stripes of mouldings. It really hacks up the space in the kitchen, too. Everything is painted an antique white, but we plan on repainting some rooms. Nothing will make the moulding less pronounced, though.
The mouldings may have had something like Liquid Gold put on them. How do you clean everything off and make it so the paint will stick?
