Painting faux wood (I think)

Posted by fivetonine on April 10th, 2002 06:54 AM

I just moved into a condo in which the previous owners had the same cabinets they used in the kitchen installed in the bathroom. It's brown (in a pink and black bathroom -- arrghhh!) and it looks like fake wood although there seems to be some kind of wood under this ugly paper-looking veneer. I'd love to paint it black. I tried painting one side with one coat of oil-based glossy black paint, but some of the veneer shows through in spots. I didn't sand or prime it because I didn't think that would work unless I was working with real wood. Somebody help, please!
