Painting exterior window trim

Posted by daniel miller on August 17th, 2001 06:05 AM

Our house is 34 years old and has traditional double-hung wood casement windows. The exterior window trim, while painted (oil base) as recently as four years ago, is badly cracking and peeling.

I would like to know the best choices for paint these days. Should we continue with oil base primer and top coat, or would oil base primer and latex top coat be better? Should we consider the new ceramic paints that a local paint store recommends? I recognize that we should remove most of the old paint before repainting. Do you recommend the use of a hot air gun for paint removal purposes? Thank you. Daniel Miller, 14 Ambleside Drive, Fairport, NY, 14450-3213, TEL: 716.223.4827
