I asked sales people at Lowes and Home depot and no one offered any useful information. I decide that sherbert green was unbearable for any length of time so I sanded the formica counters in our bathrooms, used a primer for smooth surfaces, and then used Rustoleum oil based enamel. This is the paint you use on outside metal furniture and it holds up very well under the elements! They have held up nicely, with no need for touch ups and everyone who sees them comments on how nice they look. I am also going to do the golden rod counters in my kitchen. But I am thinking of using a shellac as the final top coat.
