I understand the reservation for painting brick or stone. It makes me crazy to see an old classic brick or stone fireplace in an older house that has been painted. However, I am purchasing a home with a white brick fireplace that looks...well, in my mind, kind of tacky and dated (dated in a 1972ish way, not a 1939ish way). I am trying to figure out what I can do with this to give it some color or character. Should I paint it? Can I do something else? I have no idea and would appreciate anyone's advice on how to "spiff" this white brick fireplace up.
