painting a concrete brick fireplace - PLEASE HELP!

Posted by Mary on January 14th, 2003 08:13 AM

I need help! I have a brick fireplace that extends floor to ceiling in my den composed entirely of concrete brick. (Each piece looks identical, there is no character and it is that terra cotta color with the little ridges in it) I desperately want to paint it, and am not opposed to painting the whole thing white, but would much rather get that worn, weathered "country living" look. Can someone please advise me on technique before I begin and make a mess? I am aware that I need to first clean thoroughly with TSP, and apply one coat of masonry primer. Won't the primer cover the brick? If anyone has completed a project like this, I would greatly appreciate seeing pictures. Thank you so much for your help.
