painting a bathroom

Posted by liz on March 2nd, 2003 03:44 PM

I just bought a house in which the previous owner put up vinyl wallpaper in the bathroom. My new neighbor is a painter (albeit a busy one, which is why i'm asking here) and he showed me how to take down the vinyl wallpaper - but we found out that when the wallpaper was put up, and the previous wallpaper was removed, the surface paper on the drywall was removed as well - so i was down to the brown paper. So far i've primed it (3x with Kilz oil based) and skim-coated with a premixed drywall compound from Lowes. I just want to make sure now before i go ahead that a latex primer and paint (likely semigloss) is going to be okay, as opposed to an oil base, and if anyone has comments or pointers they would be very welcome too :)

Thanks, liz
p.s. the bathroom has a vent fan.
