I have a brown brick fireplace with a gold brass fireplace cover on it -- since I purchased plum furniture I dislike the look of the brown and gold and want something light and modern. I am considering having someone drywall over the brick and then apply marble or ceramic tile around opening of fireplace and the bottom part --my friend and her husband (a builder) seem to think painting the brick for example off white - would cheapen the room - they dislike the look of painted brick --- what are your opinions on this for a very contemporary look. The paneling on the walls in the room are painted white, carpet is a berber that has light twists of violet and seafoam green. Any help is appreciated!!
