i have found a heat gun works very good, best to have all windows open and fan blowing, also use hepa filter mask. softens and loosens the paint for easy removal with a scraper. clean residual off with paint stripper and mineral spirits. 0000 steel wool with mineral spirits for final cleaning gives smooth as the proverbial babies b*** surface ready for priming or sealing
i have found the heat gun is faster when there are multiple layers of paint, and with care gives better results with less expended energy.
