Hi, Kelly. I think that the two most important tools you can have for this are: 1) really good paint, and 2) a really good sash brush. If you tried to use the paint with a roller and it speckled your face, don't try to freehand paint with it. Get a good brush and don't overload it. I have gotten paint where I don't want it to be but it is no worse to fix than what goes under painters tape or what you smear on the wall with a wide knife.
