I just put a coat of oil based, marine enamel on my newly constructed boat (fibreglass). Shortly after I painted, it rained a bit. The water beads left marks in the paint that are a slightly lighter shade than the rest of the paint and the surface is not entirely smooth. Another small area was done at the same time but dried a bit more before the rain because of some sun exposure - this patch showed no effects of the water. This is not the finish coat so I can cover the marks. I am worried about paint failure in the future - any suggestions??
Any idea how long it should take oil paint to fully dry to a hard, durable finish? The undercoat which initially had a full day in warm and dry conditions can still be scraped with my fingernail after 4 days.
I am using a locally produced marine paint that has been used by the fishing industry here for close to 100 years so it is a proven product.
