Casey, there are 2 different kinds of paints today, oil based and water based. "Latex" paint is water based and most has microscopic plates of acrylic that stay on the surface after the carrier (water) has dried. I don't know if a similar product is available there, but will ask my son-in-law, who is from Gillingham, Kent. Along with the quick drying, another big advantage of latex paint is that it is water cleanup. You can just wash the brushes in water--a little soap helps. Oil based paints use "paint thinner"--Stoddard Solvent with a little benzene, toluol and some other "nastys" which are less environmentally friendly for cleanup.
