Overlapped siding is

the easiest and simpliest to replace at the bottom since that is where it begins.

Now, is the siding 8 inch widths running parallel to the earth? Or is it panels as in 4 x 8 foot sections?

Masonite in the 50's????? In the 50's allot of what I call R-105 or lap and grooved wood was used. It was in either 6 or 8 inch widths.
