that you should think about. When the floor became wet, it absorbed moisture and this caused the cupping, if you sand this down now, when the floor returns to its normal moisture content the floor will have a very uneven, rolling surface. I agree with your contractor, a new floor is the best way to travel, and prefinished creates a minimum of down time, mess, and inconvenience - compared to sanding a re-finishing.
