In reply to Fireplaces: Gas -vs- wood by Karla on March 15th, 1999 02:43 PM [Go to top of thread]

I love a wood fire. We have a wood fireplace. If it was just me, I'd use it often!

BUT - we rarely use it. My son has asthma. He was close to a hospital visit the last time we had a good, long fire. I have an aunt that can't use hers because of respiratory problems.

Many of out neighbors converted to gas. Gas is convenient. You turn it off with remote control. Turn off when you go to bed. No ashes to clean.
No popping embers landing on the rug.

Gas logs today look very realistic. In fact, they can even fool this old camper.

Many neighbors and friends with WBFPs, rarely use them anymore, simply because of the hassle.
