Where are you building?........

Well in FLORIDA......we're still having problems with OSB.............The product is CODE rated for all applications to replace plywood.....BUT in the real world....If there is any chance the wood will get "wet".......there is the danger of the product failing..............

Even painting with latex paint will cause the material to swell...........

The Instructions for the EXPOSURE 1 rated material for exterior construction include warnings to keep the stored material Dry, covered with ventilation, elevated from any ground moisture. During construction......cover any roof sheathing with building felt immediately..........Sweep any standing water from OSB surfaces..........drill drainage hole for any standing water..........Manufacturers suggestions include sanding the joints between floor panels to eliminate any swelling?

Recent NEW instructions include warnings that the material is unsuitable as underlayment for Tile and Resilient floor coverings ...

The current trend of constructing with EIFS over OSB substrate has been a boon to repair contractors..........IF/When the exterior finish fails/leaks and the OSB gets wet.......The material never drys but retains the water like a sponge......and soon deteriorates.........Similar projects using plywood walls survive the wet/dry cycle without the plywood failing.......

I guess I'm just tired of SOME "engineered" products that fail to live up to their claims ............. Good luck with your choice of materials..........Doug
