Opinions on new light fixtures pre 1985 wiring warning

Posted by Dave on October 23rd, 2000 03:00 PM

I looking to replace a really dated looking light fixture in a hallway of my house and all the light fixtures I can find say only a licensed electrician should install them in a house older than 1985. This is do to the 90 degree versus 60 degree wire tolerances. Anybody see this warning before? So what is the electricion going to do? Do I need to replace the supply to this fixture with new wire? Could be real a pain in the butt!

I assume if the warning exists there is a good reason, like fire.

Opinions

Thanks, Dave
